It currently most likely has best built in sculpting module of any fully featured DCC application. People unjustly discredit Blender and the amazing work devs have done with sculpting and viewport. I know half a dozen professionals who use it and never show up here or on any forums at all.Ĭancer, Julperado, myclay among others are 100% correct in their assessment.ĭo not underestimate the power of fully feature packed application(Blender,Maya,Modo) where any tool or procedure can be applied. What happens if when that number reaches something like 10%? Just musing.īut the thing is many users of Blender are not accessible to these polls that are done. But one thing is for sure that number is growing. I did some quick figures recently and come up with a very weak scientific guess that Blender probably comprises about 3 percent of the overall professional software users world wide. And what percentage of the software industry taken into account does Blender make up. A better poll would be what percentage of professional software users have Blender in their pipeline. Other, use it professionally but also don’t show up on the forums - at all. You could say the the vast majority of Blender “users” who download the software don’t even use it. Yes but you also have to take into account that Blender reaches a much wider user base than any other 3D software. It isn’t an indication of skill level nor is it insulting. It isn’t me calling them hobbyists, they identify themselves as hobbyists.Ī hobbyist is simply someone that isn’t doing an occupation as a job or source of income. The link in what you quoted is to an old survey by Blender Guru – Q5 indicates that the majority of users consider themselves hobbyists. That’s why I think the hobbyist bullshit makes so little sense even from the Blender Foundation perspective. I also believe that most people giving back to Blender through donations and purchases are people able to generate income from Blender or likely expect to do so. In fact I tend to believe that most of those users you call hobbyist are just people training to become professionals some day and that there are also lot of professional people around here. Do you have any evidence about that? It is strange because for instance most of YafaRay user base are professionals and we are a very modest free software project.
